Walk Lightly

A circular soft-textile initiative in Ōtautahi, a platform for local sustainable designers and artists.

Since July 2023 we have diverted over 1000kg of textiles destined for landfill to local creatives, and developed our own recycling program, with help from fashion students and graduates!

From reconstruction to re-spinning, we are working towards a zero-waste workshop.

Since July 2023, we have been collecting fabric off-cuts from manufacturers, and second-hand clothing from textile contributors in Otautahi.

Then we sort by size, fibre content, colour, knit or woven. The categories help prepare it for the next step of reconstruction.

To help students and emerging artists, we fulfill fabric requests (for free), what's left is then re-made (in-house) into apparel and homeware.
